Next.js development

Custom builds when no-code is not enough

We build custom websites, dashboards and web apps in Next.js and React, and fast content sites in Astro with Sanity or another headless CMS.

Next.js websites and product platforms

From AI company websites to frontend platforms, custom builds that need more control than Framer or Webflow.

Our development process

From product direction to a custom Next.js build.

We turn product goals, designs, and technical requirements into a working Next.js experience your team can launch, maintain, and extend.

Week 1

Technical direction

We review the product, goals, designs, content, integrations, user flows, and what the build needs to support after launch.

Typical outputs:

  1. 01Project scope
  2. 02Technical requirements
  3. 03Build plan
  4. 04Launch priorities

Going headless

Headless, decided before the first commit.

The CMS, the framework and the host are three separate decisions. These are the questions we settle with you first.

  • Signs it’s time

Editors wait on developers, plugins eat hours, or the same content feeds site, app and docs.

  • Reasons to stay put

A small site, WooCommerce at the core or happy editors: better hosting is the cheaper fix.

  • Sanity as the CMS

Case studies, integrations and authors as their own types and fields, with live preview.

  • Vercel as the host

Preview deploys per branch and instant rollbacks. Hobby is free; Pro is priced per seat.

  • Rankings protected

A 301 for every changed URL, matching metadata and a speed check against the old site.

  • A safe switch

Both sites run until redirects check out, and DNS moves while someone watches Search Console.

How we choose

Which stack for which job.

We build in all of these, so the pick follows what you’re building, not what we prefer.

What we deliver

Custom builds need more than clean code.

We build the frontend structure, components, integrations and product logic that keep custom sites and platforms fast and easy to extend.

  • Frontend architecture

We plan routes, components, layouts, and states before the build turns messy.

  • React components

Reusable components for pages, dashboards, product flows, and custom interfaces.

  • API integrations

We connect the frontend to APIs, auth, CMS, payments, and product data.

  • Product logic

Custom flows, user states, roles, permissions, and interactions built around real use.

  • Performance setup

Fast loading, clean structure, responsive layouts, and technical SEO basics.

  • Developer handoff

A clean Next.js setup your team can understand, maintain, and build on.

  • Astro for content sites

Marketing sites, blogs and docs in Astro: static HTML first, React only where a page needs it.

  • Headless CMS

Sanity, Storyblok or Contentful wired into Next.js or Astro, with preview before publishing.

Why DesignMe

Designers and developers in one team.

Custom code is only worth it if the result is easier to grow. We plan the build around what your team needs to change after launch.

We pick the stack for the job
Next.js for products, dashboards and logged-in flows. Astro for content-heavy marketing sites. Framer or Webflow when code isn’t needed. We tell you which one fits, and why.
Design and code stay together
The team that designs the interface builds it, so components match the design and nothing gets lost between Figma and the pull request.
Content your team can edit
We connect Sanity or another headless CMS with preview, so marketers publish pages and posts without a developer ticket.
Ready for AI agents
A clean repo with components, tokens and docs is something Claude Code or Cursor can change safely, through pull requests you review. Our own site runs this way.
A codebase you can hand over
Typed code, a clear structure and written notes, so your engineers or a future team can pick it up without us.

Tools and workflow

The tools change. The standard doesn’t.

We use the stack that fits the project, the team, and what needs to happen after launch.

Your questions about custom builds

Adrian

Still having more questions?

Send us your product, current site, repo or Figma. We’ll tell you which stack fits and what the build involves.

When do we need custom development instead of Framer or Webflow?

You need custom development when the site needs logic a builder can’t hold: logged-in areas, dashboards, calculators, deep API integrations, or content from several sources. Also when you want to own the code, or let AI agents work on it through git. If Framer or Webflow covers what you need, we’ll tell you, and we build in those too.

Next.js or Astro: which do you recommend?

DesignMe recommends Astro for marketing sites, blogs and docs, where most pages are the same for everyone: it ships HTML first and adds JavaScript only where a component needs it. Next.js for products, platforms and sites that share code with a React app or need many dynamic, per-user pages. Some teams run both: Astro for the marketing site, Next.js for the app.

Can you build with Sanity or another headless CMS?

Yes. Sanity is our usual pick, with next-sanity on Next.js and the official @sanity/astro integration on Astro. Storyblok, Contentful, or git-based Keystatic and TinaCMS work too. We model the content with you, set up preview, and connect publishing to the site.

Can our marketing team still edit the site?

Yes. Editors work in the CMS, often Sanity Studio on your own domain, and publishing updates the site. On Next.js changes can appear live without a rebuild; on a static Astro site a publish triggers a quick rebuild. We agree who edits what before the build.

Do you build backends and APIs too?

Yes. We connect the frontend to APIs, auth, databases, payments and third-party tools, and build the product logic behind them. For heavy backend systems we work alongside your engineers.

Can you work with our existing codebase or engineers?

Yes. We can extend an existing Next.js or React codebase, follow your conventions and review process, or build a new frontend your team takes over. We review what exists first, then agree what to keep and what to rebuild.

Where do you host the sites you build?

Usually Vercel, Cloudflare or Netlify, on your own account. Next.js fits Vercel best; Astro runs well on all three. You own the repository and the hosting, not us.

Can AI agents work on the codebase after launch?

Yes. A repo with clear components, tokens and docs is easy for Claude Code or Cursor to work in, and every change arrives as a pull request with a preview. We set up the docs and rules agents need, and our AI workflows service connects them to your team’s chat.

How long does a custom build take?

It depends on scope. The process above shows the usual order, from technical direction to launch support. We give you a timeline after the first technical review, once we know the pages, integrations and content involved.

What do we get at the end?

A working site or product in a repository you own, deployed on your hosting, with a CMS your team can use, documentation, and a handover call. If you want us to keep going, we can stay on for new features and support.

You've reached the end, so now…
