Astro websites that load fast and rank

We design and build Astro websites with Sanity or another headless CMS. Your team, or an AI agent, can change them without breaking the design.

Our Astro process

From your current site to a faster one.

We start with what you have and who edits it, model the content, build the design system in code, then launch with every URL accounted for.

Week 1

Scope and stack

We review the site, content, integrations and who edits what, confirm Astro fits, and pick a CMS if you need one.

Typical outputs:

  1. 01URL and content inventory
  2. 02CMS choice
  3. 03Editing workflow
  4. 04Build plan

What we deliver

Fast pages, real content management, no lock-in.

A site in a repository you own, with a CMS your team can use and a structure agents can work in.

  • Astro + Sanity

Sanity Studio on your domain with visual editing, or Storyblok, Contentful or TinaCMS.

  • Fast by default

JavaScript only for islands, static HTML and AVIF images keep Core Web Vitals healthy.

  • SEO and AEO built in

Titles, canonicals, schema, sitemap and llms.txt from your content, easy for AI to read.

  • Edits through git and Claude

One repo of plain files, so Claude Code or Cursor edits pages as pull requests you review.

  • Migrations, URLs kept

Off Framer, Webflow or WordPress with every URL, title, redirect and schema carried over.

  • A design system in code

Tokens and section components your team and agents build with, so new pages match the site.

Why DesignMe

We build on Astro because we run on it.

Our own site moved from Framer to Astro. We sell the setup we use every week.

Our own site is the proof
designme.agency is an Astro site we edit with Claude: we ask for a page or a fix, review the change, and ship it. We know where it shines and where it needs care.
Design and build in one team
The people who design the site build it, so components match the design and nothing gets lost between Figma and code.
Editors are planned, not bolted on
We agree who edits what before the build: Sanity for marketers, Markdown for developers, agents for the busywork.
Honest about the fit
If you need logged-in app screens or share code with a React product, we will say so and build in Next.js. If your team lives on a canvas, Framer or Webflow may suit you better.
Migrations without guesswork
We moved our own site with the method we use for clients: every URL inventoried, every file moved off the old CDN, SEO checked page by page.

Proof

Our own site is the case study.

Honest scope: as of October 2026 the new site is built and the redirects, sitemap check and launch are the last steps. We’ll add real post-launch numbers here.

  • Framer → Astro

    Our own site, designme.agency

Same URLs, a token design system, typed content and edits through Claude.

  • 63

    live URLs inventoried and kept

  • 1,378

files moved off the old CDN

Questions about Astro development

Still having more questions?

Send us your current site and tell us who edits it. We’ll tell you whether Astro fits, and which CMS to pair it with.

What is Astro, and why use it for a marketing site?

Astro is an open-source web framework for content-driven websites. It renders pages to HTML at build time or on the server and ships no client-side JavaScript unless a component needs it. For marketing sites, blogs and docs, that means light pages, good Core Web Vitals and markup you fully control.

Astro or Next.js: which should we choose?

Astro for content-heavy marketing sites, blogs and docs, where most pages are the same for every visitor. Next.js when the site shares components with a React product, has logged-in areas, or needs a lot of per-user, dynamic pages. We build both, and we’ll recommend one after looking at your site and team.

Can our marketing team edit an Astro site?

Yes, with a CMS. We usually pair Astro with Sanity: editors work in Sanity Studio, which can run on your own domain, and publishing updates the site. Storyblok, Contentful, or git-based Keystatic and TinaCMS are good options too. Without a CMS, content is Markdown in the repo, which suits developers and AI agents.

Why Sanity, and how does it connect to Astro?

Sanity stores content as structured data your site queries with GROQ, so the same content can feed pages, the product and emails. The official @sanity/astro integration gives the site a configured client, can embed Sanity Studio on a route of your site, and supports Visual Editing on a server-rendered preview, so editors can click from the page to the field behind it.

Do content changes need a rebuild?

On a fully static site, yes: a Sanity webhook calls your host’s deploy hook, and the site rebuilds, which usually takes a minute or two. If you need changes live instantly, we render the pages that change often on the server, or use Astro’s live content collections. We pick per page, so the rest stays static.

How do AI agents work on an Astro site?

Through the files. Claude Code or Cursor reads your components, tokens and content, makes the change and runs the build. It arrives as a pull request with a preview link, and you merge it or ask for changes. Astro also has an official docs MCP server, so agents work from current Astro docs instead of old training data.

Is Astro good for SEO and AI search?

Yes. Pages are plain HTML that search engines and AI crawlers read without running JavaScript, and you control every title, canonical, redirect, sitemap entry and piece of structured data. Speed helps, but content and structure still do most of the work, and we plan both.

Can you migrate our Framer, Webflow or WordPress site to Astro?

Yes. We moved our own site from Framer to Astro. We inventory every URL, export the CMS content, rebuild the pages on a design system, and keep the URLs or map each change with a 301. The migration pages explain each path in detail.

Where is the site hosted, and what does it cost to run?

Usually Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel. A mostly static Astro site costs nothing or little per month to host for most marketing sites, and there are no per-seat editor fees for the site itself. A CMS like Sanity has its own plans, depending on your team and usage.

Is Astro a safe long-term choice?

We think so. Astro is open source under the MIT license, and since January 2026 its core team works at Cloudflare, which has said Astro stays open source and works with any host. Your site is a standard repository, so it isn’t tied to us or to one platform.
