So, which one should you choose?

The final choice usually comes down to who edits the site, how much structure you need, and how much work you want AI agents to do.

  • Astro is usually better if:

You want a fast site you fully own, edited by your team and AI agents through git, without per-seat fees or platform limits.

  • Webflow is usually better if:

Several marketers and designers need to edit a large, structured site visually, and your team already knows Webflow.

  • Next.js is usually better if:

Your site is closer to a product: logged-in areas, heavy personalization, or a frontend shared with your app.

Year-one cost

What the first year costs on each, side by side

One typical setup, priced the same way for both platforms. Pick a new build or a straight migration, then add maintenance if you want it.

We quote migrations after a URL inventory, so “Custom” is left out of the totals.

Our work costs the same on either platform, so the platform line is the difference: Astro costs less to run here, $0 to $600 against $660 to $1,236 a year.

How AI agents work on each one

Webflow has done more for agents than most visual builders. The real difference is where the site lives.

  • A normal day on Astro

Claude updates the pricing table and FAQ, then opens a pull request with a preview.

  • Webflow’s guardrails

Webflow’s MCP respects workspace roles, supports branching and logs every agent change.

  • The source of truth

In Webflow the agent works through an API. In Astro it edits files you own.

Send us your current site, goals, and what your team needs to manage after launch. We'll help you choose the right setup for your business.

Is Astro better than Webflow?

For teams that want AI agents to do real work on the site, and want to own the code, usually yes. Astro is faster by default and has no seat or CMS limits.

Webflow is still the better choice for large sites where many people edit visually every day, or when your team is already fluent in Webflow.

Is Astro good for SEO?

Yes. Astro ships static HTML with little or no JavaScript, so pages load fast and are easy for search engines and AI crawlers to read. You control every tag, structured data, sitemap, and redirect.

Webflow also has strong SEO controls and a long track record with content-heavy sites. On Astro, the edge is performance and full control of the output.

Can my marketing team edit an Astro site without a developer?

Yes, with the right setup. Out of the box, content is Markdown in a git repo, which suits developers and agents, not most marketers.

Add a CMS, like Keystatic or TinaCMS for git-based editing, or Sanity or Storyblok for a hosted editor. Or let your team work through an agent that opens a pull request for someone to approve. If your marketers want to change layouts visually every day, Webflow is still easier.

How do AI agents edit an Astro site?

Through the files. Claude Code or Cursor opens the repo, reads your components, tokens, and content, makes the change, and runs the build to check it. The change goes up as a pull request with a preview link.

Webflow agents work through its MCP server and APIs instead. That works well, but the site stays in Webflow. On Astro, the agent can touch anything in the codebase, and git keeps a full record.

Can you migrate from Webflow to Astro?

Yes. We rebuild the design as components, move CMS collections into content collections or a headless CMS, and map every URL with redirects so you keep your rankings.

We moved our own site from a visual builder to Astro, so we plan for the parts that take longest: interactions and complex CMS references.

Is Astro cheaper than Webflow?

Usually over time. Astro is free and open source, static hosting is free or low-cost for most marketing sites, and you don't pay per editor seat.

Webflow charges for the site plan and for each designer and editor seat, which adds up as the team grows. With Astro, the cost moves to the build and upkeep, so budget for a developer or agency.

Can DesignMe build in both?

Yes. We work with Astro, Webflow, Framer, and custom development, and our own site runs on Astro.

We recommend Webflow when a larger team needs to edit a structured site visually. We recommend Astro when performance, ownership, and agent-driven editing matter more.
