Segment integration

Twilio Segment is a customer data platform: the site sends each event once, and Segment routes it to GA4, ad platforms, your CRM and your warehouse. We add Analytics.js through custom code on Framer and Webflow, and @segment/analytics-next on Astro and Next.js. We write a tracking plan first, so every tool receives the same named events.

Setup by platform

How we set up Segment

  • Framer

    • Embed

The Analytics.js snippet goes in the head through Framer’s site custom code. Form submits and CTA clicks call analytics.track from a small code component or footer script.

  • Webflow

    • Embed

We create a JavaScript (Website) source in Segment and paste the snippet into Site settings, Custom code, Head code on a paid site plan, then add track calls for forms.

  • Astro

    • API

@segment/analytics-next with AnalyticsBrowser in a client script. We create it unloaded so events buffer, then call load() once after consent.

  • Next.js

    • API

@segment/analytics-next following Segment’s App Router example, with page() on route changes and identify after signup or login.

Use cases

What teams use it for

  1. Instrument once, send everywhere

One Signed Up event feeds GA4, ad pixels, the CRM and the warehouse, no separate setups.

  2. Leads with context

identify on form submit attaches the visitor’s earlier page views to the new lead in your CRM.

  3. Consent-aware routing

Only destinations in the categories a visitor accepted receive their data.

Before you add it

What to watch out for

  • Performance

    Device-mode destinations add weight

The snippet is about 1.1 KB and the core library about 62 KB, but every device-mode destination loads its own script. We prefer cloud mode where it works.

  • Consent and GDPR

    Consent tooling is Business tier

Segment’s Consent Management and the official OneTrust wrapper are on the Business tier. On other plans we only call load() after consent.

  • Data layer

    Region is fixed at creation

The EU instance in Dublin is Business tier and a workspace can’t change region later. Pick the region before the first event is sent.

Questions about Segment

Or email us hello@designme.agency

How heavy is Segment on a page?

Segment documents the snippet at about 1.1 KB and the core library at about 62 KB before device-mode destinations, all loaded asynchronously.

Can Segment data stay in the EU?

Yes, with Regional Segment’s EU instance in Dublin on the Business tier. The region is set when the workspace is created and can’t be changed later.

Do we need Segment, or is GTM enough?

GTM is enough for a marketing site with a few tags. Segment earns its place when the same events must reach a CRM, a warehouse and product tools with consistent names.
