Kit integration

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is an email platform for newsletters, tags and automated sequences. On Webflow we use Kit’s JavaScript form embed or a native form with a custom action; on Framer, the embed or a third-party plugin; on Astro and Next.js we call Kit’s v4 API from a server route so the form matches the site exactly.

Setup by platform

How we set up Kit

  • Framer

    • Embed

Framer has no built-in Kit component. Kit’s JavaScript embed goes in an Embed component, or a third-party Marketplace plugin connects a Framer form.

  • Webflow

    • Embed
    • Native

Kit’s recommended JavaScript embed goes in a Code Embed and updates when you edit the form in Kit. A native Webflow form with a custom action keeps the site design but skips Webflow’s submissions list.

  • Astro

    • API

An endpoint calls Kit’s v4 API (api.kit.com/v4) with the API key in the X-Kit-Api-Key header to create the subscriber and add them to a form or tag.

  • Next.js

    • API

The same v4 calls from a server action. There is no official Kit SDK, so it is a few typed fetch calls.

Use cases

What teams use it for

  1. Newsletter growth

Signup forms across the site, tagged by source, into one welcome sequence.

  2. Lead magnet delivery

A form that sends a guide or template automatically and starts a nurture sequence.

  3. Click-to-open signups

A modal form triggered from a link or button, without a popup on page load.

Before you add it

What to watch out for

  • Limits

    Use API v4

Kit’s v3 API is deprecated. v4 allows 120 requests per minute with an API key, which is plenty for signups from a website.

  • Consent and GDPR

    Built-in GDPR fields

Kit’s form builder can add GDPR email and advertising consent, recorded as tags. Pre-checked boxes don’t count as consent.

  • Data layer

    No EU hosting option

Kit documents EU transfers under the Data Privacy Framework and contractual clauses; no EU data residency option is listed.

FAQ

Questions about Kit

Or email us hello@designme.agency

Is there an official Kit integration for Framer?

No first-party one. Use Kit’s JavaScript embed in a Framer Embed component, a third-party plugin, or a server-side API call on a coded site.

Which Kit API version should a new site use?

v4, at api.kit.com/v4. Kit has deprecated v3 and says it will be sunset.

Embed or custom form?

The embed is fastest and updates from Kit. A custom form matches the design exactly and loads no extra script; we use it when the form sits in a key spot.
